Do the Math!
This fall, the Guelph & Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination joins groups across the province to Put Food in the Budget—a campaign to increase the amount of money people living on social assistance receive for food. The Do the Math Challenge puts the cost of food for people living in poverty in perspective.
PUT FOOD IN THE BUDGET
Let’s talk about increasing the amount of money people living on social assistance receive for food. How much do you budget for food in a month? Could you live on less? How about a LOT less?
Take the Do the Math Challenge and find out.
First
Take the online survey: gwdothemath.ca
If your life changed and you had to rely on social assistance, how much money would you need to make ends meet?
Then
Follow challengers as they live on a food bank diet for 3-5 days. Could you and your family survive on a typical food bank hamper?
And finally
Talk or blog about it with family, friends, co-workers, community leaders, and elected officials. Then join us at a town hall meeting September 27 (6:30 pm, Guelph Youth Music Centre).
