Decent Work is a series of 3 audio plays created by people who have lived experience with low wage, precarious work. Each audio play shares a fictional story that is based on real work experiences and struggles. Each episode was created as a call to action to build support for decent work to ensure that all workers have fair wages and working conditions.

How were the decent work audio plays created?

The decent work audio plays were created as part of the Guelph-Wellington Decent Work Project, an initiative of the Guelph & Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination in partnership with the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition with funding from the Atkinson Foundation. From 2018-2021, the Decent Work Project engaged over 1500 workers in Guelph and Wellington County as part of activities to increase awareness of and support for decent work.

One of these activities was a virtual storytelling workshop for workers who have experience with low-wage, precarious work. The workshop was facilitated by Zoë Barrett-Wood using Theatre for Living, a process for communities to share their stories and contribute to change. Over 6 sessions, participants worked together to create three fictional stories based on their real work experiences. Participants then voice acted out the stories which was recorded and edited into 3 audio plays.
