The Poverty Task Force recognizes that everyone in our community has a role to play in the elimination of poverty, including elected officials for the City of Guelph and County of Wellington. As we prepare to head to the polls on October 27th, the PTF is getting involved in the following ways to ensure that poverty is an election issue and that voters are informed about the issues. Here is what we have planned:

  • Poverty briefings will be distributed to all candidates in the City of Guelph and County of Wellington with information about poverty-related issues in our communities and the role that municipalities have in eliminating poverty.
  • Print Media – We will be submitting opinion pieces to the Guelph Mercury on issues related to affordable housing & homelessness, income inequality, food insecurity, and health inequities in the weeks  leading up to the election. We will also be submitting an article to the Guelph Tribune and Wellington Advertiser.
  • Candidate Q & A’s will be collected from all candidates and posted on our website to help voter’s understand where candidates stand on different issues.
  • Voter Outreach – Community Voices and a small PTF Action Committee are working to ensure community members are registered to vote and know how, when, and where to cast their ballot.
